Stress is the side effect of modern lifestyle and also the modern thought process. Most of us are stressed out in some way or the other but how many of us are working towards helping ourselves. I believe stress is not the result of busy lifestyles or too much work but it is the lack of actions or activities we need to help us relax and have a good nights sleep. If we do not work on our stress, slowly we develop mental issues, like irritation, anger, anxiety and so on.
I believe it is not only important to be successful in life but also successfully manage our mental and physical health because how happy we are is the combination of everything. We need to be in control of our work and also our family life. Because no matter how affluent you are, happiness doesn’t come from your wealth but from a healthy lifestyle.
Healthy body and healthy mind will also help your profession
We all have ambitions, and to work hard on our ambitions, it is important we are focused and disciplined towards it. Being stressed also hinders our growth as we are unable to focus on our work. While you are happy, you can find more energy in your work and will always be active to face professional challenges. Stress in life often leads to failures , may be professionally or in personal life. It acts as a source of distraction and kills your motivation on a daily basis.
Happiness
I am a happy person and my emotional state does not depend on the work I do, or how much I earn or how Successful I am. While you work to earn your living but that does not suffice for the human needs we have , like the feeling of joy, or relationships, or activities to keep you fit and healthy and so on. Things you need to do to keep yourself happy might seem unnecessary as they do not earn monetary results but it does help you have a better life in the long run.
Step 1 : Avoid thought that give you stress
Here are a few kinds of thoughts and feeling which brings stress in your life and to fight these you need mental strength and a bit of spiritualism.
- Peer Pressure
Peer pressure is the number 1 factor of stress. For example, since the world we know of values people by their wealth or success, we start comparing ourselves with others and self inflict ourselves with sadness and pain, because we feel lesser human beings simply because we are not making as much money as someone else.
What to do : Somebody who is richer and more successful than you doesn’t make that person any bigger than you. If is what you do with what you earn that makes you a good human being and one should aspire to be a good human being more than anything else. A Smuggler can also be a rich person but is he any good to the society? Earning respect for yourself in your own eyes is important, help the needy, engage yourself in conduct and activities to help others, you will be amazed at how good you will start feeling about yourself. It is the most satisfying feeling.
Step 2 : Find time for family, friends and loved ones
It always feels like time is never enough. There are people who engage themselves in professional work all the time, upto 12-13 hours a day, because they are addicted to having more success, but their personal life often fails.
What to do : Everything in life is important and the best way to give time to everything is to be rigid and disciplined about time. Work time must be limited to 8 hours, there must be reading time, time to practise your hobbies, time for family and friends. If you are happy and satisfied, you can achieve more in 8 hours than what you can in 12 hours. Also a good manager/leader can do more in less time.
Step 3 : Give time to physical fitness everyday
Our mind is our body as well. Keeping ourselves fit and healthy is the most important thing actually. For example, if you fall prey to a disease like diabetes and all that you earn is taken away by medical bills, how is that helpful??
What to do : Engaging yourself in fitness activities is a very important. We must find that 1 hour workout time. Our mind, to work well needs fresh air, and steady blood flow, our body needs to detox, our organs need good blood flow to keep themselves healthy and perform optimally. All that is only possible if we engage ourselves in fitness routines. But most people do not engage themselves in fitness activities because it is often monotonous and boring. That is where my company is working, towards building, more engaging and interactive fitness systems that can make your exercise time fun and entertaining which is also good for your brain.
Step 4 : Learn a musical instrument
I am myself a guitarist for last 18 years and I know how music has helped me cope many situations in my life. I would like to discuss about the scientific aspect of how music helps your mind and body.
What is music? It is primarily vibration in air, and certain frequencies are very distinct and we identify them as musical notes. Human beings are also made of cells which vibrate and simply put musical frequencies help the energy levels in our brain cells and keeps them at the levels which are good for us. If you do some research, you will find that stress can also lead to blood pressure and brain stroke. Have you ever felt your brain heat up when stressed? Because at that point the brain is trying to do too much without a proper direction.
Which instrument to learn ?
Although we are passionate about musical instruments, we should choose the one we should learn practically. I have seen in my life, many people who started learning musical instrument left it because they found it too hard. My suggestion will always be, if you are in your 20s, you can pick up string instruments like Guitar or Violin, but if you are in your 30s, you should go for something where sound production is easier, like Keyboard or Piano.
Step 5 : Reading
You must have read somewhere or the other, that top entrepreneurs are avid readers, and that is true. Reading is a great stress busting activity with the added benefit of knowledge and is also the food for your brain. Reading gives you the opportunity to explore different subjects, different ideas, gives you feelings of excitement, thrill, joy, sadness and so on. And you never know, reading might open doors to other ideas for business or ventures.
Step 6 : Vacations, outings and trips
Earth is a beautiful place, and there is so much to see and learn. It is utmost important to travel, meet new people, see new things, explore new food. We are equipped with 5 senses which need to experience things and in return it brings down your stress levels. You can pick up a subject like photography and your trip will also have an added purpose of clicking some good pictures. You can try out cooking classes while on trips to many places, and enjoy your holiday time to the maximum.
